Lost in translation
Sometimes translations don't always go according to plan. We've found plenty of examples.
Here's some examples 'lost in translation'
Japanese hotel room - You are invited to take advantage of the chambermaid
Paris hotel elevator - Please leave your values at the front desk
Bangkok dry cleaners - Drop your trousers here for best results
Rome laundrette - Ladies, leave your clothes here and spend the afternoon having a good time
Moscow hotel - If this is your first visit to the USSR, you are welcome to it
Norwegian bar - Ladies are requested not to have children in the bar
Some bad translations:
In Italy, Tonic Water was translated into Toilet Water
A pen manufacturer marketed a ball-point pen in Mexico with the slogan: It won't leak in your pocket and embarrass you. Mistranslated the ad read: It won't leak in your pocket and make you pregnant
A cosmetics manufacturer translated their Mist Stick in Germany as Manure Stick
A Miami T-shirt maker printed shirts for the Spanish market for the Pope's visit. Instead of I saw the Pope (el Papa), the shirts read I saw the potato (la papa)
